I was just wondering if any of u guys could help me decide between an 06' Raptor 700R or 07'/08' KFX450?
I would be useing it strictly for trail riding, and maybe a little dune. I currently have a Kawi and its alright but its way too small for me. I liked the Kawi, especialy because no one else that i ride with had one. The biggest quad I've ever ridden was a DS650(it felt like a tank) and I want less weight than that, but I would still like to be able to keep up with it. To cut to the chase, Which has more potential?

I have a raptor 660, and I'm about 90% sure that my next quad will be the KXF450 for the following reasons:
It will be quite a bit lighter than what I'm used to, and I hear it may even be a little lighter than the YFZ!
The Kawasaki 450 dirt bike engine is a powerhouse, so I'm hoping that the KFX450 quad will outperform the competition in the power department.
Full aluminum frame
good standard components (wheels, brakes, shocks, bars, etc.)
it's 48" wide stock
I like the way it looks

The raptor 700 is a sweet ride too, but I want something lighter, unless...

The Outlaw 525 turns out to be as fast as Polaris says it is, I've ridden a KTM 525 dirt bike. That thing was a rocket! However, I don't think that the IRS will be able to match the handling of a straight axle. The other quad I'll be watching for is a pure KTM 450, which is coming... but I'm sure it will be very expensive.

Lightest 450 out is the KFX if you do trails you will like it because of Reverse. Potential is unknown because they arent out yet, they wont be having an 07 model. they jumped to 08. Hope this helps

The 700r Is a potent package, it likes to be revved out. The KFX however, if Kawasaki didnt de-tune should also be very hard to beat. I am a diehard Kawi fan and would choose the KFX. I sold my KFX 700 so I can buy one. I have rode two 700 Raptors, one was a slug and the other a rocket. Both were bone stock though. Being that you are coming off a Mojave, i would be careful on both machines( Huge power difference ). But both should offer great potential for trail quads.

I have a 2006 700 Raptor that i have done the exhaust, intake and programmer. I mostly do trail riding and dune riding. I had it out at the dunes for thanksgiving weekend and only lost at the hill to one YFZ that was far from stock. If you are looking for a good out of the box ride the 700 will work well. Its hard to compete with Cubic Inch. I am not knocking the 450 at all as I will be getting one for my wife as soon as it hits the ground. All I can say is the power is there and the ride is like a cadillac. I have ridden the honda, suzuki and yamaha 450's and none of them stock had the power that the 700 did and also the ride will beat you to death if you are doing anything other then MX. Just my 2 cents.

Specs are up on Kawasaki's site: LINK

Unfortunately it's not the lightest 450 out there. 364lbs. But I'd still take it over the rest because of reverse! I guess I'm spoiled since I've always had it, I'll never buy a quad without it.
