I know....what the HELL was I thinking.

Last weekend, my dealer got in some black ones. I put my deposit down on a white one over a month ago (back in Jan.) They told me to come in and look at the black. I did. Looked awesome.

I still wanted to wait for white. Came in today. Went down to look at it.....even better than the black IMO. Also IMO, the KFX is THE best fit/finish bike in the 450 class. Very detailed, nice controls, great looking welds (especially compared to the boogers on the Honda and Suzuki).

Long story short.....as expected, dealers are wanting list (at least around here). I guess I should be lucky they didn't ask for more than list. Regardless, I'm not quite willing to pay over a grand more for this bike over a YFZ, even though it has FI. If it had been out for a year and we knew the FI would work flawlessly, and that the aluminum frame isn't an issue....or that there isn't a wider, lighter MX version in the works....I would probably have gone for it, but as it is.....I just don't want it that bad. It will make someone else VERY happy though.....and I'm admittedly a little jealous.

I've got plenty of other toys though, so hopefully I can wait a year or so and take advantage of a better deal on a new one.

So, what's everyone else paying? They list at $7399 in white and green. $7599 in black. Anyone getting down much below that?

Thanks for any info.

Got a quote from a dealer in a different state as me (WV). There, I don't pay taxes, but do when I get it back to my state (PA). $6550 OTD. Add the taxes here, $393 and a bit for registration, it ends up just over $7000. I'm thinkin it will be worth the 1hr 45min drive. We'll see. The prices here locally...full retail + some additional charges. Good luck with whatever you decide. Ride on.

I paid a little over $7400 for mine here in Tulsa, OK. They are going quick and none of the 15 0r so dealers I called here in OK, ARK, and Ks were selling them for anything less than msrp. Some dealers were asking more. Only down side I found is the accessories are not available yet. When I bought the Z400 last year for my girlfriend I bought nerf bars and a set of wheels and tires for the sand. Luckily the rear bolt pattern is identical to the SUzuki so the sand tires I will pick up next week. I am going to get to really take it out and ride today, still only half throttle but I am excited. It is a beautiful looking quad that fired right up and has a good fit and feel to me. I hope to post some after the ride.

Wow, some of you guys are getting AWESOME deals. The owner of the dealership tried to tell me he was giving me employee price at almost $7700 OTD.

Then he acted surprised when I passed.

Oh well....

Try living in Washington. 10% sales tax. The only deal is to get them to drop the set up fees. Lowest I can get is $8300.00 out the door[/b]
Well the one thing I can say that is nice about Oklahoma is that they no longer charge sales tax on ATV's. Now technically however you no longer get a title you get a bill of sale and you are supposed to register with the state. When I went to check on registering the Z400 we bought last year it was going to be $300+. However almost everyone I have talked to here that has bought one in the last year or so has not registered them.

I am sorry that some folks are having to pay so much, I can tell you that if you live near OK you can drive an pick one up without sales tax. Finding one might be difficult but that won't be that way forever. My dealer ordered 10 and got 3 (1 of each) all of them are already gone of course.

I'm actually from Oklahoma originally. My parents still live there. I guess that's an option.

What are they charging for delivery/assembly/doc fees?

The reason I ask? My dealer just called again today to tell me that I was wrong that the bike would be about 8K OTD (@ 7399+tax) b/c I didn't factor in the $792!!!! they get for doc/assembly/delivery...and that it was closer to 9K and that the $7700 was a REALLY good deal.

I told them people on this site were getting them for $6500 OTD. He said,"Ya, but that's in another state". Like AZ is some sort of different planet. I also told him I bought a $36K Lexus on Saturday and the destination charge on it was $715. He said that it's a lot more complicated to assemble a bike....he has to put on the handle bars and the tires/wheels. Jeez....for that amount, I'll put them on my damn self.

EDIT**** I just realized alot of you guys are saying OTD and then adding in things.....OTD in my mind is EVERYTHING....tax, registration, doc fees, everything. Is that not how motorcycles are negotiated?

OTD .... is out the door. The OTD price will include ALL fees, tax, licence and misc. fees. The OTD price is the price you pay to take the bike out the door. I payed Retail price Plus Tax ... 7.75% and licence. I think right now if you get the bike OTD for any less you are getting a deal. Now if you want to wait 3 months the price will go down. I would NEVER pay more then Retail price Plus Tax and licence. Some dealers WILL charge $200.00 - $1500.00 for freight and set up. That is pretty much a BS charge. Bottom line to me its sounds like a fair deal.

wow im gonna haveto talk down my dealer. He is wanting msrp. I would willingly pay the msrp but no tax and all that crap.[/b]
Seems like $7K-7400 OTD is what one should be expecting to pay....unless your dealer wants to rape you. And at that price, I'd pick one up. Anything more though, and I'm waiting.
