After playing with two dealers, one who wanted 10,200 anf the other that wanted 9,200 I stopped and picked up a 07 Raptor LE. So looks like I'm not going to be rollin on 450.

Was funning, after I got home the 9200 guy calls and says, we can go down to 9000, told him sorry, just unloaded a new Yammie. I told him I wasn't playing around.

Wise choice! The KFX450 is going to be a nice quad but so is that 700 LE. I'm glad someone stuck it to the man. 8k for a 450 is ridicules for a quad. It's still a just a 450. They'll be under MSRP in a few months watch and you'll see.

At least with that big bore you won't have to deal with shims. You also can add a higher compression piston on that thing and you'll be killing the 450s. I just read some pro put a quicker lap time down with the 700r LE vs a yfz450. That's impressive being 40 some odd pound heavier.

Key word is ...... PRO RIDER ...... put an average rider to that same test and the 700 lap times will not be close the the 450 lap times. The Raptor is a great bike, but it does not handle like a 450.

You're right... but your "average" rider can't even drive a 450 to it's potential. So I guess it's a null point. The 700r with its lower mid range powerband does makes it easier to ride for the "average rider".

And since the majority of us are not "pro riders", and do the sport for fun, the 700r has way more potential to be faster all around. Throw some +2 arms and a 11:1 - 12:1 piston and good by 450s. To bring the 450 up to speed since it's already on kill from the factory you'll need a big bore kit of some sort, you'll still be dealing with shims for the valves... you can have it. Raptor is putting down on average 40hp stock with a measly 9:1 piston and a tame cam. Guys just slapping on a pipe, efi controller, and intake are hitting 50 no problem. If that isn't enough go with a 780 kit and you'll be shooting at low to mid 70HP range. Yee Haw.

450s are purpose built = MX.

Its not about that. Its the fact that the 450,s are lighter and hendle better. So the average guy will be faster on it. Faster on the mx track, faster on the trails and faster on the hill as the 700 is not to great stock in the HP department. now once you start building engines all bets are off. I see you have a 700 and they are great bikes no doubt. They wont mx or handle as good as a 450 ..... bottom line. If i was just racing the hill a 700 would be nice, but i will not give up a fast nimble 450 for a 700. Just my opinion. I would love to have both though.

All you guys are so hooked on the 450's that its almost getting too funny. Don't get me wrong, I love the 450's but the Raptor is an underated ride! No, the average rider actually might be faster on a Raptor than any of the 450's (with the normal mods) other than on a tight track. The F.I. Raptor is a great all around bike and is actually a better ride for almost all conditions other than MX riding. I currently own a 06 LTR450 and a 07 Raptor (previously owned a 04 YFZ450) and can tell you first hand when riding trails or playing in the dunes (I live in Oregon where the biggest dunes in the US are located) my LTR sits in the garage a lot more than my Raptor does. If you are mainly a dune rider or just play in the woods, I would recommend taking a ride on a Raptor before purchasing a 450 as you might be surprised on what you end up prefering to ride. The Raptor is more forgiving and is easier to ride in most instances. And you can actually feel the added power (a lot more torque) the Raptor has over the 450's. And if you plan on investing $$$ into your ride, you can get a ton more power out of the Raptor than you can get out of any of the 450's. The only real downside to the Raptor is the added top heavy weight which does effect the handling in high speed riding (not as bad as the 660 Raptor though). I highly recommend you ride both before you jump on the 450 bandwagon!

I guess it just a matter of opinion. I rode a Raptor 700 last weekend in the dunes. The 700 did not handle anywhere near a stock LTR. The Raptor was top heavy and suspension was soft and floaty feeling. I would take the LTR all day over the raptor 700. The 700 stock will get owned by the LTR with baffle out, lid off and a cherry bomb. Yes the 700 will make big power with some mods nobody is going argue that, but unless i am shooting the hill or riding in 3rd gear i dont want a Tall, Heavy bike with big HP.

1) The LTR has +2 arms stock, if it didn't handle better, there would be something wrong. If you want to compare the 700r with a quad with stock +2 arms... throw a pair of +2's on the 700 and compare them.

2) I raced a LTR with the baffle out w/a cherry bomb with a bone stock 700r and it was a dead even race. (drivers race every time) Driver of the LTR was probably a few lbs less than me too. On top of that he was a 26 year old experienced rider not some noob. (I'm 35) Nobody is getting owned here. Torque is what gets you moving and the Raptor makes a boat load down low (the main reason you need to short shit the raptor). A high revving 450 isn't going to make any decent torque until higher in the rpm range. This Danielson, is fact.

3) Ride a SE with the upgraded shocks. Top heavy is so two years ago with the 660. If your riding with proper suspension setup, meaning sag, ride height, compression/rebound settings the quad can hang. Jumping on someone elses quad that isn't setup for you makes a big difference. I don't know, maybe your one of those guys who don't setup their quad?

40hp at the wheels stock isn't great for a stock quad? I guess you failed to read my last post completely. 40hp at the wheels with a 9:1 compression piston is pretty damn good if you ask me.

I'd take a 700r SE over all quads (which I did) and I'd take the "lighter" LTR450 over a KFX450 :blah: Who needs reverse on a MX quad? It's just extra weight. Plus the LTR can be had for a cheaper price. :D

Congratulations!! The 700 Raptors are super nice!! Raptorforum.com has all the information you will ever need.

I can't wait to get my hands on the KFX! I'm sure its going to be a nice ride!

I believe any PRO rider could dominate on ANY bike... lol I'm sure if I was on the fastest YFZ on the planet and Bill balance was on a 350 Raptor he would still woop my butt.

k well first of all the kfx is lighter than the ltr... second of all i would take my ltr over the 700 any day. Ya power is good but it sucks balls when u only can use it in a straight line. Try taking a corner with the 700 as fast as the guys with the 450's do

no your telling steve that the 700 is unreal with add ons and can beat anything when ya your prob right it could.........in a straight line. where if you spend the same amount of money that u do on the 700 making it race ready that u do on a 450 the 450 will kick the crap out of it on the track.....Ya sure i could put bigger tires on and sprockets and make it go real fast but not many ppl care about how fast you are going its how fast you get there and how much control you have while doing it. Im sure steves kfx or my ltr for that matter will beat you on the track or on some high speed cornered trails. Im not bashing your quad cuz ya they are good but dont come onto a site and say yours is the best. Plus you said that steve is one of those people that dont set up his quad....right? find out what company he owns and what he does.
