For all the people out there wondering what kind of power this Kawi might have I thought I'd post the dyno info for all the current 450 motorcross bikes current available which is what most of the ATV engines are based on. I also ride motorcross and subscribe to Transorld Motorcross and this info is from their 450cc shootout they did on the 07 bikes for the January 07 issue. Should give you a good indication on what kind of power the ATV engines might have although don't forget the Kawi and Suzuki has the added benifit of F.I. in their ATV conterparts....

Honda- 51hp & 35.5 torque
Kawi- 48.7 hp & 35 torque
KTM- 52.2hp & 35.6 torque
Suzuki- 48.7hp & 35.6 torque
Yamaha- 48.6hp & 35.3 torgue

the horsepower isn't that high on the stock 450 quads, most of them are around the low fourties or high thirties.

No, that seems to be rear wheel horsepower and torque, they put closer to 55+ brake horses..

Didn't suzuki rate the ltr450 at around 51hp? Then of course it has to spin an axle and 2 wheels and you lose some power.[/b]
I just read over it on quad magizine in school and it said a claim of 45hp

Realisticly they all start around 35hp.
I've been reading about the 450's since they came out and from what I've gathered the 06/07 Yamaha head casting is the same as the 05 YZ/WR. Therefor changing the piston out to the YZ compression, cam mod, pipe equivelent to the YZ and no airbox lid would get you to the bike hp but the Honda and Suzuki are not even comparable to the 450 bike. I doubt the Kawasaki will be either.

Just picked up my new KFX450R on Wed 3/14/07. What an awesome quad! My dealer wanted to put it immediatly on the dyno, although the shop didn't have enough time before closing. I was promised that when I brought it in for it's first service they would put it on and run the testing. They are as anxious as I am to see what it really does. I got the first KFX at that dealer and they don't expect another one for a couple weeks.
I will post the results as soon as I have them.

It will dyno like crap unless you give it a good 10 hours of hard riding to get everything seated.

I ran over 3 tanks of gas before I even opened up my 450r up all the way. I have about 6 tanks through it now and it keeps getting faster and faster, I have a 250r and a quadzilla and it will run with both of them. The 250r and quadzilla do have more top end speed.
