Well i finally got a little time to start cleaning, painting, & powder coating a few things on my bike. I just got the front bumper done this morning & i will post other pictures as i get the parts finished.
I thought about doing the center flat black but ended up going brushed aluminum then I'm back lighting it with blue led's.
I think you should do the hubs blue. Tie Rods, Pegs or Nerfs, Blue gear, and add some in the graphics or number plates.
Speaking of, you need to check the rules of the series and see if they have strict number color guidelines and all that. If not you could do blue backgrounds or outlines, etc...
Another thing you could do that I am going to do is Hiper mud plugs. You can make the plugs blue, or put stickers, graphics or blue numbers on them. Costs a $100 for their kit but I think it is possible I might have found a way to make that way cheaper.
Thanks man i really appreciate it. Yea i think I'm going to do the blue tie rods and candy blue spindles. I had never thought about the hubs but i think they would look good polished and candy blue as well. I was thinking about blue frame as well but i may go flat black on it in case i decide to change the color scheme next year.
Yeah I would leave the spindles polished, and do the hubs.

Nobody has done a blue one.
I would probably never color my frame unless it got stained up where I could not get it looking nice. Then I would do it kawi blue or kawi purple for green plastics or green for black plastics.
Shiiiii I rather like my ol matte aluminum frame. Nothing to scuff up.
I will avoid it as long as possible and would probably try polishing before I would give in and powder. This KFX has really gotten me away from liking colored frames and polished aluminum, etc.
Hated the matte aluminum and black wheels when I first got it.
It sure did grow on me!
No they only got two options.1. Is a black background with whit lettering and red emblem for black arms. 2. Is a clear background with black lettering and red emblem for colored arms.
That's another reason i thought of just doing black. There is enough black ones that i wouldn't be coping anybody. If i did blue it would be much much lighter than yours more like my hood.
Lookn good man!frames look awsome when there powder coated but they deteriorate quickly!the sides were your boots rub get ruined even with guards then if it happenes to crack well then it's ruined!ive done 3 frame 2 black and 1 kawi green all 2 have cracked 1 was bent badly!the green was the best outa all of em!this is why on my current rebuild I left the frame alone and just did smaller stuff which will last longer and look better for longer!as far as the work part it's quick and easy to strip a frame and get it done trick is timing!rushing it sucks taking 1-2 months is the way to go!
U have had mine stripped a couple times to polish the aluminum but quickly got tired of that because every time i would need to use aluminum bright it would dull my polish and i would have to do it again. Ononewheel do you clear over your powder coat? Seems to me that would give it a sacrificial layer that could be sanded and reapplied if it gets scratched or wore.
Ya I've had a few people say when powder coating the oven weakens the frame!ive cracked 3 frames olny 2 were powder coated so who nos!im just sayn in general for xc racing the bikes take alot more abuse!now mx I would do a frame in a second the bikes may be jumping more but avoid the rocks and rough stuff!i just think the riding in my area versus were most of you guys are is just that much more severe!3 of my fellow kawi riders this past year have also cracked frame in the same spot as mine!
Two of my team mates have had cracked frames. XC is harder on them. More brutal abuse on the ground by far and repetitively. Plus rocks, plus trees... We XC race some of them magical forests where the trees move. And if you get tired enough, I swear they talk smack to you too.
Well i got my decals for my arms today i think they break up the green nice but I'm having a second set cut in blue just in case i change my mind. I also think i have decided what to do with my frame.
I think it looks pretty good. It came out better than i had planned. I had planned on polishing it out then coating it with a few coats of candy blue paint but now i kinda like it like this I know this will be more durable If i do just polished it i will shoot it all with clear so i don't need to polish the thing after every ride and it will be easier to clean up "thanks Duster for that idea by the way" when i do get it a little muddy.
This has nothing to do with your post about painting, but you've been running the +3 hot rods crank for awhile now, have you had any sort of engine troubles due to the shortened rod??
I don't think clear is going to stick. Paint needs scratches to adhear to surfaces( hence why u sand a car before painting it) in the polishing process u use extremely fine sand paper and everything gets packed with compound to make it shine. So nothing for the clear to bite into
Yea i knew that. I would need to skuff it down with 320 grit and wipe it all down with laquer thinner to eliminate contamination then i would be able to go to town with the clear. The main reason for polishing was to see any imperfections b4 i shoot the clear on. I have done a lot of aluminum parts like this.
As for the crank goes. I don't have a lot of hours on it because of a few mechanical problems i had after the build but i have a few hours and have had no serious issues. On the other hand i don't hang out in the high rpm's very much i didn't use the hot rods bearings and keep a very strict maintenance schedule. You run your motor in the range it is built for.
They get it to bite to polished wheels on cars that are very slick high polish.
Maybe they use an special adhesion promoter?
I was talking to a dude about how nothing sticks to my rear hubs for some reason and he sad something about doing clear as a base instead of the etching primer.
Off the subject but weird about my hubs. The fronts have done so well and it washes off the rears with a garden hose after a while. Like the longest it has stayed would be about a year. It has got to be a different alloy... or maybe it is just that the heat from the front brake discs baked it on good?
