Spark plug

Hello Everyone,

Iím new to the kfx450r just got an 09 last month. Ran great on my trip to West Virginia just overheated a lot due to flaw of not burping the coolant correctly. I noticed it had trouble starting as the day went along. I just replaced the air filter (was filthy as all get out) and was going to replace the spark plug this weekend as i replace the valve cover gasket. So hopefully that will make it start up quicker? A guy recommended getting the valves shimmed if it doesnít work. Also what spark plugs do you guys recommend because iím not knowledgeable about them.

Oem NGK plug.

If it is hard to start you likely need the valves adjusted

It's an iridium plug. It's not cheap to buy in a store but order one from ebay and it's around 12 bucks. It has better heat dissipation and a more efficient spark. The effects are definitely observed with a coil upgrade as well. All starts will become easier.

However there is no replacement for having the valves shimmed correctly!

Thanks for the feedback. I’m going to see how it runs with the new air filter, valve cover gasket, coolant change, and oil change. Mainly concerned with the overheating issue at the moment. once that’s done and if it’s still not starting quickly could one of you walk through the shin process? Or would it be wiser to take it to a dealer?
