Hi I traded my honda 400ex for my dad's kfx450r and it has a hard start when it's cold but I think I have it figured out.

My reason for posting is I
found a weird looking wire that has a clear-ish plastic cap.
I searched the internet for hours but can't find anything.

That's where all of the negative grounds tie together before going to the frame. Its not why...u either have a bad starter clutch or you have a weak battery/battery changing system and it doesnt put enough juice back into ur battery while riding.

There is one more possibility....the spring thats on ur exhaust cam is a compression release and its busted.

And hopefully its not a wire thats shorting out cuz that will be the hardest to find

Hard start when cold is a sign of valves being out of adjustment.

Usually the Intake valves tighten

Hard cold starting...Battery not fully charged 12.8 volts standard...Throttle positioning sensor is out of range..0.58~0.62 DCv @ throttle closed...

fuel map might need adjusting if you have a fuel controller

Hard starting with a hot motor common would be the valve clearance needs to be checked

Valve Clearance: between cam and valve lifter
Standard:

Exhaust 0.17 ∼ 0.22 mm (0.0067 ∼ 0.0087 in.)
Inlet 0.10 ∼ 0.15 mm (0.0039 ∼ 0.0059 in.)

If the valve clearance is not within the specified range,
adjust it.
