If you are just going to be doing casual trail riding then the stock suspension components are more than adequate especially if you get them dialed into your body weight/ riding style. They have alot of adjustment and you can get them revalved and resprung with multiple rate springs to make them better.
I mostly ride motocross and like to jump alot more than I trail ride so I went with longer travel and wider A arms. I can still trail ride but it's not ideal for narrow trails and my settings/ tires need to be changed.
I have seen some of the more serious XC riders go with slightly wider (.5 - .75) A arms and long travel. If you go with this type of setup you will see better performance and you still keep your ride pretty versatile. You can still go out on the track when you want to you just have to make minor changes to compression usually.
