Stock Stem?
Hey guys, was just curious if any of you know the diameter of the stock stem on a 08 KFX 450.
Trying to match up the KFX stem to see if it will fit on a 07 YFZ 450. If the diameters are the same, will it bolt right up? I don't wanna take the Kawi apart if we don't have to. Trying to get a quick fix until a new stem for the Yami comes in.

I think the lower mount on the Yami is completely different. Don't think it'll work man...sorry, I don't have a way to measure mine before Saturday.

Isn't the Kawi 1 1/8 and the YFZ 7/8?

I wasn't sure on the diameter differences, you could very well be right.

you're both probably right on the lower mount... I may try to use the YFZ tie rods, screwed into the KFX lower mount and KFX stem. I know the tie rods are the same. guess just gonna give it a shot, it's a little extra work but oh well!
thanks for all the input you guys

You're thinking about the handlebar clamps man...not the stem diameter.

I'm not only concerned about the tie rod mounts...I'm talking about the lower mount where it attaches to the frame. The bottom of the Kawi stem has a very long and small (I think M6 thread if I remember right) "bolt" attachment to connect to the lower bearing, which in itself is very much different from the YFZ's. Then your steering stops and tie-rod location height is probably not going to be correct. Then to top it off I know the stems are different lengths.
The point...I'm 99.9% sure it won't work. You can try it...but I think it's a no go. A stem is not something to rig up...something goes wrong there and you're going 70mph w/o any steering. I'd wait til you can get a new stem and do it right.

yeah you have a point. they're not even my quads, I just wanna race this weekend for the LL area qualifiers, didn't want to have my boyfriend sitting in the pits because he jacked his stem up and the KFX is blown. but you're very right, it's not worth the risk of injury or further damage.
thanks again

You can probably pick up a new stem on Ebay for cheap. I know time is an issue...but hope you figure something out.
