I need some help, I am wanting to buy a 450cc quad and like the KFX450R, but from what I have been reading, it soounds like it may have reliablity issues.....I will list them.
1. Frames broken or bent, are they weak?
2. Steering stem problems.
3. Bad vibrations from engine that you can feel in the handlebars.
4. Frame and swingarm retaining water, causing carrier bearings to fail in the swingarm.
5. Battery will not stay charged.
These are the problems I have been reading about, I am looking at a red 09' model, can anyine out there assure me that this is a better machine than the trx450r? Thanks!!!!!!

out of the 5 issues you listed I only see 2 valid ones; #3 & #5.
#3 can be addressed by going with FASSTCO anti vibe bar inserts, anti vibe stem, flexx bars (in any combo or by themselves)
#5 I am not sure if Kawie has addressed this issue with the 09's but with the 08's you need to kill the motor frist with the on/off switch first then turn the key to OFF then turn just the key back ON then OFF again. This has worked for me since it was first listed on this site as a work around. I have let my quad site for a couple of weeks at a time and no more battery issues.
Good luck and post some pics when you get her

I've never heard of frame issues at all. If you bend one of these frames, you'd bend any frame. The battery can be upgraded and a set of Flexx Bars will eliminate the vibration to your hands. If you're worried about the water in the swinger, some people have drilles a tiny hole in the lowest point of the swinger to help drain it.

Good deal. It needs a few things to really open it up, but they're things that most stock quads need anyways. Intake being the most important, the stock intake is junk. (Take a look at it. You'll laugh.)
As far as the problems you listed, I've run into none of the above. I recently let my quad sit for weeks and weeks because my truck was stolen. When I went to start it up, it fired up no problem. They do vibrate a little, but the Fasst Co. bar inserts will solve that problem. Their Flexx bars will solve that problem and then some. You may run into some problems with the threaded inserts spinning in the frame, that seems to be a very popular issue, I ran into it myself. Whether or not they fixed that problem for the '09's I'm not sure of, but dealers seem to be warrantying the problem. (I didn't bother taking it to the dealer, as the aluminum intake box I went with doesn't use the factory intake box mounting holes.)
