Improving my kfx450r
I own a kfx 450r 2009 atv, and i want to make it faster without modifying the engine, i thought about a full exhaust system, but i dont know which brand is the better one for kawasaki and if i need a power commander or something like that. Which is the best one, what can ido?
Thanks

Get the BIG 3:
-Full exhaust
-FCI intake ( Fuel Customs Intake )
-PCIII or PCV...but I would get the Procom Adjustable ECU ( Look it up, its Dusters thread and he provided ALOT of good info on this product ).
I would get a Dasa, Pro Circuit, Jardine RT99, or TDC exhaust ( gotcha Adam ). Those seem to be the best 4. The FCI, look up our site sponsor, KB Motorsports, they give a 10% discount to members and have other great deals, and like I said, look up Dusters thread ( and many other threads he has ) about the Procom Adjustable ECU. KB Motorsports sells the PCIII's and PCV. Hope this helps.

+1 on the mods listed above
Are there any good maps for the procom out there yet for modified quads? With the pc3 there are good maps for about every aplication. I thought about getting the procom for the fact i get timing adjustments and more revs in reverse. However for fuel management I would keep my pc3 installed as well and have the procom set on stock settings for optimal fuel/air mixture in all throttle settings.

It comes preloaded with 9 maps above stock for modified quads.
Most people are getting good enough with one of these.
And it's not hard to take the best one and edit it if something is off.
You can do it like you are talking about... set it to map 0 and it should be no different than it is now if your PC was tuned with a good ECU on the bike. And this way you gain all the nice features of the Procom.
Also, what a lot of folks don't understand is this... running like you are talking about, you can take ANY full Procom map, go to the fuel settings, click reset, save as new name and load that to the ECU on map 0 setting.
So for instance, if you wanted to run any one of their timing curves, you can just do this to the map, keeping the timing and resetting the fuel to stock. Or you can take a stock map and program any timing curve you want... same thing...

OK. All of the mods listed above are great products. If you are hitting the rev limiter in fifth gear with the way your bike is now, only one of those products could make your bike faster. They will make your bike quicker, but not faster. One that could make it faster would be the procom ecu, because i think you can raise the rpm limit, check with Duster.
If you just want more speed, put a bigger front sprocket on or a smaller rear sprocket on.
Start with a 15 tooth front sprocket and go from there.
There will come a point where your engine will not have enough power to pull taller gearing, then you need to get some of the above products.

Best mods, as has been said, are the big three plus cams. IMO, here's the route you should go:
1. Full Exhaust - Curtis Sparks, DASA, or Jardine RT99
2. Intake (stock tube is the most power limiting factor: FCI with or w/o box depending on the riding you do
3. PCIII or PCV (will only be necessary if you do an intake...not just exhaust)
4. KX dirtbike cams
5. 15/39 gearing for XC type riding...idk what to tell you on MX or dune set-ups w/anything other than 20" rears
6. A full tune on a dyno
These things will really liven up your engine. It will make it feel like a new quad. I was getting beat by built 400's before I did these mods, whether I was riding them or riding mine...rider didn't matter.
You'll see the best gains from an intake w/a tune on the PCIII, but make sure you don't run an intake w/o a tuner b/c you'll run lean and it'll cause ya a lot of problems.
