I might just call them and dicuss it with them. its been over a month since I have talked to them about it and I didnt ask them much detail. if all they do is just change the oil and check everything, I am not going to worry about taking it in. I might have been dumb but i did buy the extended 5 year warranty when i purchased it so maybe i should just have it done so its on record

also keep in mind that different things are covered under warrant and under extended, for instance they replaced my battery 3 times under the factory warranty, under the extended it wasnt covered even tho my battery was going bad every 2 months and they couldnt find a reason as to why

They wanted like 1200 for it when I bought mine in 08. No way. If I would have bought the service plan and the warrant it would have cost about 10k. I walked out with it for 6400.

well i talked to them today and they said flat out it will not void my warranty. if i dont get my valves adjusted sometime, they said if something fails with the valves that warranty will not cover it, fair enough i thought. so i talked to them some more, said it was $110 just for the valves so i think im going to just put some more hours on it and maybe in the fall take it in and have the valves done. they also said just to keep receipts for all the work i do to it. so ill just keep changing the oil and everything else then sometime take it in for the valves i think

haha yea that would be awesome if someone paid me to do that! but ill have to do some reading up on it and try to get comfortable with tackling it. I just need to get over the part that this thing intimidates me and just adjust them. but thanks a lot for all the feedback on everything, i really appreciate it.

Star City Motorsports in Lincoln, Ne wanted $400 to do the valves. If you can get it done right for about 100, do it. They also wanted $50 for an oil change.

wow thats crazy. they wanted between $150-$200 for the first service with is an oil change, valve adjustment, and just a whole bunch of adjustment checks. i actually think this dealer isnt to bad of a dealer, they didnt pressure me into the first service, just said it would be a good idea, then i told them i have already changed the oil and adjust the chain, etc... and they then said if i just wanted to bring it in for a valve check thats what it would run me. so they sound like a pretty good dealer.

Is there a link to an online copy of the service manual?

Or maybe an article showing how to adjust the valves?

I found one for my xr650r and have used it to adjust them myself.

http://www.xr650r.us/tech/valves.pdf

anything like this for the kxf450??
