Filter oil
OK guys, I have a K&N style gauze filter that is passing dust.
I have decided to try a non-typical filter oil on it to see if that stops it.
Problem is, I don't know which one to try.
All I figure is it will have to spray on... and I have limited choices because I'm putting it in the same shipment as the replacement UNI filter, which is not available through many places...
I planned to make that order today, but I keep flip-flopping on what oil I'm going to try on the K&N style filter. I'm not paying separate shipping for each item, so my oil choices are...
UNI aerosol
PJ1 aerosol
(old) No-Toil aerosol
Motorex 655 aerosol (specs gauze or foam)
No-Toil Evolution (& try application with spritz bottle)
So if you were going to try this application, what would you try?

Hey Duster.....I would try the Motorex as it is for gauze or foam.
What's the filter thats passing dust? S&B, K&N?
I have the FCI filter which I think is made by S&B and have had no probs with dust passing.

K&N...
From what I understand it's not in the same league as the S&B because of the additional plys on the S&B.
Never heard of but one case of an S&B leaking... and that was because the media developed holes.
Yeah, so no one take this the wrong way and think I'm talking about an FCI or Fuel ATV filter.... because that's not the case.

Oh... and you're from OZ I see... and from what I've seen you guys know what dust is for sure...
So do you guys down under use Motorex products?
Or are you just saying it's the safe bet... being for both?

Have not used that product.......but seeing as it says for both types of filter that would be my choice.

I hear you guys man... and with the number of you... I do want to try it.
But I am not sure how I will get the fit/finish right with that filter.
I mean it will fit... but I'm thinking it will be hard to install...
Having a back limits the room a fellow has to put it down in and push it on the flange.
It's 1/4" longer, for a space that is already cramped in that respect.
Some changes I haven't figured out yet will likely be required.
There is another filter I have had my eye on for a long time that I didn't try for the same reason. It's exactly the same length as well.

well how i found mine easiest to get on was i put a tiny bit of black silicone on the otuside of the intake tube that goes to the filter , took my back plastics off and i slide the box in the sub frame as far back as i could get it, i slide my filter in the box and then slide the whole thing forward by holding onto the filter and it went on way easier than trying to install the filter whith the box mounted in place, i beleive its an 8ply filter with outwears and really does the job for filtering the air

Yeah, I find that it is a whole lot easier to deal with the whole thing if you just take the back plastics off out of the way. I have to in order to even get my box in I found out. But I think it's a good thing.
As it stands now, I can assemble the whole thing and just hook it together at the TB boot... which is nice.
Now as far as this S&B filter, and the other filter I've had my eye on... Both will physically fit in my box layout no problem. It's just you know that I have a solid back. The filter now just does fit down in and bypass the flange with my fingers behind the end cap... which makes it easy to push on.
If I put these filters in at an angle, letting the top of the boot go over the flange, the extran length would clear without box work.... but it all rides on how stubbornly tight they slide on the flange. If they are easy it will work, if not a man would never get them pushed on this way.
I could make it work, with some glove-fit shaping of the back of the box to extend into the tool area... or by trimming the rear plastic to a squared angle... as right now the back of the box tapers in at the top to match the lines of the plastic like...
box\ plastic
