do you need to change oil filter every time u change oil

Do you need to change oil filter every time the oil is changed and whats the best oil for 08 kfx 450r, kawasaki 4 stroke synthetic oil? How often should you change the oil? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

i was told that you dont have to change the filter every time but every other time.

Ive been using Castrol Power RS GPS 4t 10w40 part synthetic, been working great and i feel like it helps the clutch work a little better.

Change the filter every time. I've always run either Kawi full synthetic in 10w40 or Spectro full synthetic 10w40. When I went to rebuild the top end last year you couldn't tell it had been run and I've never got the clutch slip that others do w/full synthetic.

I change it every 5-10 hours of riding or every race...whichever comes first.

Filters are cheap dude, if you're already changing the oil, why not loosen the two bolts and change the filter? This is the easiest oil filter to get to I've ever seen, lol it wouldn't make sense to not change it.

I also run the Kawi S4 full synthetic; it seems to do the trick. Some guys are changing their oil every other ride, and can use a slightly cheaper oil, but I'm way too lazy for that.

You dont HAVE to BUT it will keep you running longer, and filters are cheap, so I would change every time. As far as oil goes i use and recommend synthetics

I use Red-line synthetic !0w-40w during the winter and 20w-50w for the summer...Change your filter often If you ride hard??? because of your clutch friction plates debris...and it is good to use a Magnetic oil plug to collect metal shavings and prevent the shavings to travel through your motor....

thanks guys I have another question. My battery keeps goin dead, I have to jump it off in second. Put new battery in it and it still goes dead after sitting couple weeks. Are you suppose to leave it neutral or does that matter?

I'd change it every time.

Nothing says you have to buy Kawasaki oil and filters though.
That would make it a pretty expensive part of operation.
(kawi doesn't make oil or filters, just profits)

I use Hiflofiltro filters... quality filter... and I support a local supplier... and I buy stock in them each time... and get them cheaper than a fram from walmart.

For oil, I have settled on 15w50 Mobil 1.
I also buy this in bulk... 5 qt jugs... $21... or $4.20 per qt.
$21 for 5 quart jugs = 4 oil changes...

So filter, oil, tax and all, it cost me under $10 per oil change...
And I don't have to do it near as often anymore... which makes it cheaper than using the cheapest 10w40 you can find.

It's the first oil I have tried that lasted any length of time.
I can run the stuff until it actually starts to look dirty....
Instead of having to change oil before or after every ride...

The neutral thing is a myth... I have proven it, and so has my servicing dealer.

I spent a whole year on this very issue.

Today I still have the same battery that it came home with.
But I don't have the stock ECU anymore.

Bottom line is, if you have the battery drain issue, you can check and see if something simple is causing it. But I have yet to find one person who has ever been successful at that... such as someone finding a bad wire or bad relay as the culprit.

So in the end, if you have the battery drain issue, I'd say there is a 99.9% chance you have a bad stock ECU and will have to do like I did and replace the stock ECU with the aftermarket one I have listed in my signature.

i run the white bottle of rotella T 15w-40 i change my very very often, just depends on what riding im doing, if im just cruising and trail riding, ill do a few trips, if i go to the dunes last time i changed it every day because i was running the bike non stop dragging, when i do mx i change about every other track day, and i change my filter every time, been nearly 3 years without any motor issues
