Yeah guys... if I had to make a guess, here is what it would be...

I would have to guess that when Kawasaki decided to outsource for the ECU that they went with Mitsubishi, and went the cheapest route on getting the hardware...

Specifically, I bet they agreed to assume liability for this part themselves.

Either that or Mitsubishi found a way to hang Kawasaki out to dry on the ECU's where they stuck eating it.

I think if Kawasaki saw a better option, they would rather do the right thing?
But I'd say they are cornered, and also hurting with the economy.

I mean look at it this way... if they were not worried, I believe they would have clearly much rather ate the cost of replacing my ECU than lost my extended warranty purchase.

I mean clearly, they lost a whole lot more with just me alone than they gain by not covering the part. So there is a bigger picture.

Clearly a lot of units are affected in one or more ways by this. I think they know it needs recalling... and someone has made the decision that they are safer and stand a better chance avoiding it if they never ever replace the first one.

Ah man... it's just not going to happen.
It's still dragging on...

I gotta bring an end to it tomorrow.

They have another joint test session scheduled on it tomorrow.
And I am sure they will get what they feel they need to be OK rejecting the claim.

See, what they are going to do tomorrow is Kawasaki's tech and the dealer's tech are going to do a "teleconference" amp draw test on it again.

The only reason for this is to make it appear as if the high readings were attained by the wrong testing method or the latest is... with the wrong testing equipment.

And also they know that the chances are a zillion to one that the problem will happen and get caught twice in a row in a 24 hour period.

IN FACT I DON'T KNOW OF A SINGLE CASE FROM ANYONE WHERE THIS HAS HAPPENED TO ANYONE.

That is what they are banking on using as cause to reject...
A NORMAL READING ATTAINED DURING THEIR SUPERVISION OF THE TEST.

The only wildcard left that I know of is that my draw is always a bit abnormally high at all times. Not battery killing high, but higher than in a normal unit.

But I know they are going to excuse this, stating that it's not excessive.

Understand also that they are dragging myself and the dealer through this... never-minding the FACT that my KFX has be shop-monitored for almost a month now... and has been documented in-house to kill the battery overnight... and has also been documented to do so in neutral as well.

Furthermore it has also been documented that it does so with a pre-tested and documented "perfectly healthy" battery.

Now as some have suggested and I have also discussed with the dealer....

The battery drain issue has a sort of band-aid fix available out there.

A BATTERY DISCONNECT SWITCH could be installed.

But frankly, it's not the battery drain issue that is the problem that burns my biscuits MOST.

What bothers me most is the issue that it is also either not metering fuel correctly or is not processing ignition timing properly. (yes the coil is known good)

It has the symptoms of overly rich fuel metering or improper timing.

It doesn't start well.
It doesn't idle well.
It doesn't operate properly at all particularly in the low RPM range.
It dry fouls plugs in a short amount of time as a bike that is rich would.

It operates best with mods in place to lean it out, and right after the ECU has been freshly disconnected from the system. Then it progressively gets worse the longer everything remains connected.

Take everything back to stock and it is terrible... so some of it is to do with flow and fuel metering.

This they seem to totally blow off all together.
Why?

Because they know the rest of the EFI system checks out and all of the ignition system checks out.... leaving no explanation but the ECU.

And this is the video I took 5/30/09 of the progressing symptom what sent me running off to the dealer with my tail tucked between my legs... and put the thing in the shop to be fixed the first time.
