My 08 needed a battery replacement after about 6 months from new. The replacement battery (same type) has had no problems since. I think the first round of batteries in the KFX were defective or something. My second battery is now two years old with no problems??????????

Mine is a 08, I have the same problem. If I let it set for about a week or 2 it will not turn over. I ended up just getting a battery tender jr. and connecting the quick connect to the battery terminals, now when I park it I dont have to pull off the cover any more, I just hook it to the quick connect and leave it on the charger till next ride. I was told that if you will leave it in neutral, when you park it, that it will not drain the battery, but I have not tried this yet. My uncle has a polaris predator and it would die about an hour or two of riding and if you charged the battery it would be just fine until you rode it for a while, it ended up being the voltage regulator, dont know if maybe the kfx could have some flaws with the regulator or not.

I just want to clarify something here before I go on...

I have the drain issue, but still have the stock battery.
I have seen it drain before overnight.
Stator charges it right back up fine after a roll start.
I've been parking it in gear with the kill switch on now for months and the SYMPTOM is solved I guess you could say.

However, obviously the problem cause remains.

Many of us have this problem whatever it is... and many of us do not.

I'm just trying to gather information about it from large sample data.

Just this site alone is a lot larger source of sample data than any one dealer shop has.

A car, or anything else don't kill your battery while sitting around a day or two though.

Normally closed- is a circut that is closed and needs to be opened to turn things on

for a closed circut, leave switch off and test continuity , there should be no continuity, flip the switch to on and it should make continuity

for normally open, turn switch off and test continuity, it should have contiunity , and flip the switch on and continuity should go away

I think thats how it works

The term NC and NO refer to the state of the circuit when in its deenergized. As in relay contacts.
Both of you guys understand wiring WAY MORE than I do.

So while I have the pair of you here... let me ask a couple things...

Going from the diagram...

The W wire coming into the key switch... that is the hot + from the charging system/battery (?)

Then the BR wire coming out of the key switch is supplying that hot + to the system when the key is on (?)

Then that BR wire goes to the thumb kill.
But what does the thumb kill do in each position?
I know when ON there is power to the fuel pump relay, start button, coil and headlights.
And off there is not.

The NO/NC just has me confused.

Is it energized with current going through when ON (?)
And not when off (?)

Or does it have no current going through when ON (?)
And then act as a "ground out" to the fuel pump relay, start button, coil, and headlights (?)

I could figure that out with some time and a meter.
But it is a cold winter for us here and I don't have a heated shop.

Guys who understand this stuff should just be able to tell me I figure, and save me a lot of trouble.

And you have had drain issues before or not?

Just making sure because that would be an important piece of info.

08 here with drain issues. I put in neutral, switch thumb switch off then turn key off. Usually this works all the time but it sat for a couple months in the shed with temps below 10 degrees for a few weeks straight. Needles to say the battery lost enough juice to not start, charged it up and its fine now.
