+1. A lot of voltage drop will come from the cold if your quad isn't stored in a warm place. That could really throw off your results.

ya my battery usually sucks here in AZ some times during the winter months we will go from like 95 on day and then 2 days later be at like 50 so it drains the battery

I will measure my battery voltage too.
Thanks very much.

And I think you are right.

But I very much appreciate you going to the trouble.
What you post will help me out a lot.

The results are in!

1. Battery voltage with all switches off. = 12.25-12.14 (12.14 after starting the ATV 2 times in a row with only letting it run a few seconds)

2.Current draw with the key switch in the off position and thumb switch in the on position. = 0.079 DC mA (this is the number you want. This is the amount of current the comuter is drawing with the ATV turned off)

I hooked the the current meter (+) lead to the (+) terminal on the battery and the current meter (-) lead to the (+) main battery wire. This make the current flow through the meter. This how you measure current. For shits and giggles I try to turn the key on with the with the current meter hooked up and as expected it blew the fuse in my meter.

I hope i did not mess up but I did hit the wrench on the frame taking the positive battery lead off and made some sparks. I know I am suppose to take the negative lead loose first but I was trying to take a short cut.

Glad it's a metal frame.

Anyways, I was looking into how to check the stator out.
I think all I can do at home is check battery voltage while running and check resistance.

But I think I found another possible typo in the service manual for the resistance check.
Not sure because I have not looked at the bike.
But I thought all the stator wires were yellow.

Have a look.... and if you have an explanation let me know...
This has to be a mistake.

All the stator wires coming to the regulator/rectifier are yellow.

The white and blue/yellow lead come from the crank sensor and separate out over the rad bottle to a plug. Then different color wires run on to the ECU.

What BS............

Hahahaha... yeah....

Would be nice if you could trust the FACTORY service manual too.

Figure if I don't figure it out myself or at least really narrow it down, the dealer is going to be stumped on it again.

Duster I hope you got my PM. Anyways I am gone to bed but I will check tomorrow at work. I just replaced my grab bar and it was a little B$%&* getting those rubber potted nuts switched over to the new one. Good luck on the electrical problems.

LOL... most any of them are usually good parts changers if they know what part to change.
Diagnostic people are the ones that are hard to find.

Anyways, on the service manual crap...

The white and blue/yellow leads do belong to the crank sensor.

ALL of the stator leads are yellow... even all the way to the regulator/rectifier.
Most of the tests on those 3 yellow leads give me 0.4 to 0.5 ohms...
Switching test leads around I think one gave 0.6 ohms.

I think the stator is OK... as I do not know how else to test it.
And disconnecting it did not change the draw yesterday.

Everything seems to check out but the rectifier and crank sensor.
Nothing seems to change the draw I have been able to measure but the ECU though.

I guess I should leave the ECU plugged up and disconnect the rectifier/regulator AND the crank sensor.
I'll try that when the weather breaks again.
