Not too impressed with Pro Armor

Well, I got in some of the Pro Armor items I ordered, and frankly I am not real impressed with them so far.

It seems to me the biggest thing they have going for them is the "cool factor".

The stuff does look real cool, as long as you don't look real hard.
The finish is kind of lacking...

************************************************

The swing arm skid is nice and thick, and has a chain slider already.
It bolted up super simple too.

The coverage is a bit scanty though... like a bikini for your swing arm.
It offers no coverage for the upper swing arm or link.
It doesn't come with a link guard either like I thought it would.

**************************************************

I also got the full Fat Peg Nerf Bars, and they are very nice.
However, the fitment was the worst of anything I have ever seen.
I mean you could tell they were the right nerfs, but that's all.

You should be able to just put the nerfs together, then attach the weldments to the stock peg mounts and slide them right on.

No friggin way was that happening!!!
They would not line up.

It took several attempts and an act of war to get them on!!!

Both sides were bad, but the right was worse than the left, and had I known that in the beginning, I would have just shipped them back. Even now that they are on, I'm not so sure I shouldn't.

The left side went on, but I had to take the weldment off the bike, then loose fit things and FORCE it to line up. It was a little long from the a-arm to the other mounting points, and was bowed out away from the peg mounts. I flexed it to get the bolts in at the a-arm and subframe. Then I had to install the peg bolts with an open end wrench and make it pull up tight.

The right side... holy flip!!!... Took me several attempts, including nearly taking the left side off. Nothing helped.

I finally got it by banging around until I could get the a-arm bolt in.
Then I forced it to get the subframe bolt in, but could not get the peg bolts in.

Started over, put the a-arm bolt in, then managed to get the peg bolts part way in... and then I got the subframe bolt in by recruiting my wife and using a long steel rod to pry against it.

That's a little concerning...

Then after all was said and done, the dang nets... they don't work for the KFX. There is not enough length for those 2 ends on each side to wrap around the KFX's fat frame rail.

I'm kind of frustrated, and I wonder if I shouldn't talk to Pro Armor about it.

Anyone else had this sort of experience?

Not at all... My nerfs went on ok, I had to do a little convincing, but no more than any of the other 5 or so sets of different brands of nerfs I've seen go on quads.

I figure the coverage on the swing arm skid is adequate? When are you honestly going to run into something that will damage it somewhere the swing arm doesn't cover?

And the nets are a little short at the frame side, but I'm guessing you left those for last? I did the same thing, and was just barely able to do them up, after much headache and hair pulling (Although there is enough there). Apparently it's much, much easier if you do those ones first, as you can imagine.

I would actually consider sending them back to Pro Armor and telling them that they don't fit for shit, and that you want a new set.

Yeah, the left one would not slide on the weldment and stay behind the a-arm mount.

Took the weldment off the bike and loose mounted it to the nerfs.
Then hooked the nerfs up at the a-arm and subframe.

This is how far it lacked pulling up AFTER being completely mounted once.

The right one wouldn't go anywhere with the weldment on the bike.

Took it off and repeated the actions on the right side.

This is how far it lacked lining up when mounted to the a-arm and subframe.

I couldn't find a way to get the weldment lined up so I started over.

Mounted it to the a-arm, then swung it up and forced it to clear the brake cylinder.
Then I banged around until I got the bolts in the weldment.

Then it lacked this much lining up at the subframe.

That's when I drafted my wife to help and forced it in place.

They are on there now....

I didn't have any problems at all with any of my Pro Armor stuff. My nerfs mounted up super easy and I've yet to take any hits that the skids didn't soak up and I occasionally ride in some pretty rough shit.

I guess I was just unlucky on the fitment then...

I just hope I don't end up regretting making them fit.
Was that a mistake on my part?

Me too

Where did you get yours becuase I had similar issues as well. Me and my buddy needed about 2 1/2 hours and had to use a 2 x 4 and metal pole to "lever the things into place....all the while loosening every bolt and in some cases removing bolts we had muscled in to one place to make another one fit. I have them all locked down now but I still worry that they are wayyyyyy flexed to fit in their current state.

I also had a problem with the dominator bumper. The lower right arm was nearly off by a full inch and with those short arms there was no way to bend it into place. I had to send it back to Golden West and have them ship me a new one. After talking with John there it sounded like they got a bad shipment in that included a bunch of Pro Armor bumpers and nerfs for the KFX.

I bought a set of their nerfs for my YFZ and it would have taken an act of god to get them to fit right. I put them on the best I could for 2 rides then gave up and ripped them off the bike.

Exact same here on installing the nerfs...

I have a Dominator bumper on the way also... hope I'm lucky.

I got my nerfs and swingarm skid from Magic Racing though.
I have to give Magic Racing a thumbs up...
So easy to find what you need on their site... and fast processing too.
Thumbs up even though they don't have the "perks" that others do...
