Factory intake screen cutout.
Has anyone performed the factory intake screen removal mod? Any pros or cons> Is it worth it?

that screen is very restrictive. plus stock intake is the worse ive ever seen. But i guess a cheap mod would be to cut it out.

I did it a year or so ago. I really could not tell any difference, but it sure did not hurt anything.

To get results from it you have to do like I did and go a little more extreme than Ron Wade does in the internet article.
What I did was completely remove all traces of the screen from the cone.
Then I went further and removed all the plastic rings.
All I have left are the 4 support posts to the filter nut / \
The screen is a backfire screen and for fire prevention.
So install a flame resistant filter.
I did a No-Toil filter... water resistant, flame resistant and higher flow.
The results were worth the work, but still not what you would get from an intake.
It just lets you get in the max that will pass through the inlet tube... which is pancaked to clear the shock.

I took the screen out of mine 2 years ago. just make sure there isnt any small pieces left in it, that will get sucked into the engine.
Get a LTR tube, and modify the stock box to fit farther back in the sub frame. The stock intake tube sucks!

As it turns out, you can pop the inlet off the front of the box and pull the whole cone out. I just wasn't brave enough to try it not knowing... You'd need a flange and a clamp on filter then though.
Had I known though, it would have made my work easier and cleaner. Would have been a lot better than the way I had to gut the cone it while it was in the box.
Anyways,
Here is a picture of what I did for future readers....
No screen, no rings on the cone anymore.

When I removed mine and spent a bit of time on the inlet with a heat gun I did gain a bit and it leaned the thing out from stock, Today I bolted on my long awaited FCI and went testing! This is the way to go from mid on up this thing hauls ass! got to play with the fueling a little bit more but overall I am well pleased

Right... FCI has a little bit on everything else out there because they invested the most in R&D, testing and design.
I only did this mod plus a higher flow filter to try to help correct the air/fuel ratio on a rich bike. As it turns out though, I'm 99.9% sure I have a bad ECU. So I will need a fuel controller now, if and when it finally comes back from the shop.
Since I have to fool with a fuel controller, I am going to do my intake also.

Duster I ran a Motoworks FMI with the stock box, I did install a filter into the lid to let it breath a bit more and it ran real strong, after fitting the FCI I have gained more on top but the really strange thing is the bottom end is real rich and puffs black smoke if I blip the throttle, it never did it before the FCI and I can adjust it out just seems a bit weird as the top end went lean! will spend some time tomorrow sorting it out and see how the seat of my pants dyno recons how much more I can tweak out of the thing

The FCI is formed for top end, and probably has a lot more ability to flow much more when you start going into the engine for gains.
It's curious that it's now rich on the bottom. Could be a trade-off thing... or it could be something with the stock part of the system.
Double check your inlet air temp sensor since you had to mess with that.
Also check your TPS output voltage.
