i dont usualy reply to many posts.but dont get me wrong. im not picking on you. so i must reply...so your mad at kawi because you didnt do any maintaince.everyone should ck all fittings.especially the air filter. everytime you ride. if this happened to a yahama you would blame them.and most dealerships that are certified dont have any young kids doing any important work.ck the service dept they will show all tec certifcations.not all dealerships are the same. but here in pa everyone must be a tec. with certifiation from the brands that the shop sells. im not picking on you ,but as a service writer i hear many stories.ive worked on many brands ive seen many problems. with over ten years as a writer, ive heard it all.im sorry for your problems, but you cant blame any one but your self. good luck.

I understand your point but what if it were a rod bolt that was not tightened. Would I be responsible for that as well. There are some things that I believe the manufacturer should be responsible for making sure are assembled correctly. I don't think his air box came loose in 5 hours of ride time. Fasteners likely, Hose clamps not as likely. Just because people have certifications doesn't mean they don't overlook things sometimes. Just my 2¢

The boot was sitting in a way from the side of the quad you could not see it only looking under the seat with a flashlight you can see it. I did do preventative maint on the machine and went through it thouroughly. Hell Kawasaki does not put de-electric on the connectors, however i did thanks to these kick ass forums i may add. What i am saying is i should not be responsible for Kawasaki not installing a rubber boot corectly. It was not even connected so how am i to be blamed? All i can say is ride safe man and keep it upright!
And to edit this post to add i am the one that found the problem now its up to Kawasaki to fix it right i hope.

I just purchased a 09 and afet reading your forum i'll be damn sure to check it over. I took it from the floor to the trails...worked great..now need to put in anoth 6 hours to break it in. I am unfimiliar with dealer set up, but they usually charge the buyer a fee for it, if it was out together wrong then it should be the dealer respons. If its under warranty and you change the oil as recommended and document that and it blows up (heaven for bid) there should be no reason it would not be covered....ride on and enjoy...

so i recomend using airfilter oil . PS wasnt trying to be a dick
Lets see... 3 brand new KFX 450's, factory filters, oiled from the factory, mine was brand new out of the bag (had bought a second filter) Yes there was a bead of goop around the base to seal it and yes, the filter was a sticky mess, not dry. All 3 had some sort of dirt beyond the filter in the intake tube and on the cone. The one friend has been riding since the 70's so I'm sure he knows about air filter oil. He was just as surprised as I was when he checked his and his wife's 450's and found dirt. This is my second quad, the z400 I had before didn't seem to get any dirt beyond the filter and I had cleaned/reoiled that a few times. Same riding areas too, sand and the dusty logging roads.

As an update for my broke quad blues. I spoke with the service desk at Paulsons today and the service guy had made me feel like he was not sure if Kawasaki would cover it because i had not taken my bike to them for my regular services. It had a 10hr service in my backyard and i explained to him that. He also had told me they had done a compression and leakdown test. I asked what it was he told me it was close to the tollerances for normal wear. I pursued numbers and he explained that factory leakdown is 10% of compression he said mine was 12% so that is not within factory specs. Now we play the waiting game to see what kawasaki is going to do. I pray for a new engine every night now
