Review for you K&N and Maxima guys

Well, I said K&N passed our dust...

And there was no stopping it with K&N oil, outerwears, etc...

So I went to trouble to find and try a better oil that would work with the cotton gauze...

So I found Maxima FAB-1 filter oil...
Supposed to stop dust and be water proof...

Well then I found out first ride that the Maxima oil was not at all water proof...

Not even a little muddy water resistant...

And second ride on my 400EX I found the K&N still passes dust, just not nearly as bad as before with the K&N oil...

The 400EX ran 2nd in line all day on the ride... and I brought up the rear all day on my KFX anyone in the group got hung up or too far behind to know where to go...

All day, no lid, No-Toil fast filter and oil...

Not a speck of any sort of dust inside anywhere... nothing.
Well a couple large particles fell in when slid the filter off..

But you get the point...

This is not nor never has been about "preference"...
It's about FACT... and the pictures tell the story.

Wow let it go this is the third thread you have complained about k&n. If you don't like it stop using it its that simple. I love the fact that You built your own intake and put a lot of effort in it but stop with the filter already sick of reading about it.

I was just trying to test this oil on the filter another ride... since the 400EX is a snorkel intake setup... and the engine is already suffered damage from dirt ingestion.

I thought the oil had the issue solved... but it didn't.
Much better than it was before, but still passes some trail dust.

Just wanted to show people that K&N nor Maxima products are a solution to this problem.

I am tire of beating a dead horse on a filter media that don't work.
So you won't have to read more of these threads on K&N.

But as tired as you are of reading them... I am 1000 times more exhausted with reading the K&N filter praise posts... when none of the ones I have seem to filter much at all.

I'm sick of reading how a few people say nothing gets by theirs... I beg to differ... with pics...

If you are overlooking and don't see anything, and are actually using a K&N brand filter... you might want to check your compression and send off an oil sample for analysis.

if i were you dust, i would trash the cotton filter and go to uni/no toil which ever you prefer. you go back to a foam filter you can probably still run your intake the way it sits now with no problem.

This is why I don't have a k&n on none of my bikes, they are straight uni. I never get anything past them, I run/race in clay, mud, sand, silt, it all stays on the filter and doesn't pass.

All my buddies ride k&n on their hondas and talk crap about my uni and kawi, but when they are replacing their top end I'm still riding my kawi.

Ok I went out and pulled my filter off and took pics as I went so you could see what I see and that is nothing in the intake tube. It has never been cleaned this year and you can see that there is NO dirt on my finger or the rag I used to wipe the inside with. So now you can see both sides of this too. They can be used and work great for some people and not so much for others. By the way the back of my filter box has a 1" gap on the sides and bottom.

Right... I don't have this issue with the No-Toil as shown...
Not even in the back of the pack... and lazy filter maintenance...
Should have cleaned it before this ride...

Problem is that No-Toil doesn't make a filter to fit my aftermarket layout.

So I will be testing a UNI on this new application to see what the loss is if any.
I also have 2 other filters lined up that will work.

The 400EX will be using UNI when I rebuild also.

One thing I just thought of today was I could borrow the cone, cage and filter from the stock box... to use No-Toil... but I think it is too long. I'll look at it again later. Will probably just go UNI though because it already works and clamps on.

Dude... looks like you got dust in the tube... not a lot, but it's right there... on the box flange... there on the black before the gray section...
