All day, no lid, No-Toil fast filter and oil...
Not a speck of any sort of dust inside anywhere... nothing.
Well a couple large particles fell in when slid the filter off..
But you get the point...
This is not nor never has been about "preference"...
It's about FACT... and the pictures tell the story.
this looks just like mine and your claiming that there is no dirt in it!

I just wanna say one thing in all of this. Regardless what filter you run its all preference. I will never run a foam filter, that doesnt mean they are not good for some people. I also will never run a K&N filter again FIC intake is much better with the 8-ply technology.
But in the cotton fitler's case, I ran the K&N mod quad kit for almost 3 years on my Kawi, and Yes I took it and cleaned it frequently but never had a problem with passing dust. My dog also got a hold of that intake when I was cleaning it one day, now the cotton part of it didn't suffer any severe damages but the metal cage that forms the filter did. And to be completely honest still didn't pass dust. This could be due to a couple of things. One being when I ride in the dirt or dust, I clean my filter everytime. Second I may not ride in the dustiest areas but when trailing on an mx track the dust can get pretty thick.
Again there is too many circumstances to say which is the better option. In my opinion run what makes you comfortable, as I am comfortable with my cotton filters!

This is why I don't have a k&n on none of my bikes, they are straight uni. I never get anything past them, I run/race in clay, mud, sand, silt, it all stays on the filter and doesn't pass.
All my buddies ride k&n on their hondas and talk crap about my uni and kawi, but when they are replacing their top end I'm still riding my kawi.
Since you are "straight UNI" let me ask you a question...
Have you ever had anything unfortunate to hit your filter?
Water/Mud?
Just curious how water proof the UNI oil might be?
I never have had such a situation on anything I had a UNI on... and I don't have any of the oil left here. I ran out some time ago, and just used the old No-Toil oil which worked, but that oil took the UNI apart on the last cleaning (it used to use alcohol as an evaporate thinner).
I've seen a video that showed the No-Toil oil had no water resistance like the Maxima FAB-1... and I'll check to see how true that is when I service that No-Toil fast filter in the picture.

+1. That's almost what I said earlier but you had a lot more grace.

Yo man then why do you keep opening the threads reading about the filter subject..
A lot of new kfx owners can find this really useful before they go out an buy a 60 dollar k&n filter considering a reliable filter is the key to keep any engine running good.
I've listened to everything Duster has to say he's pretty lidget

I like to read alot of what he puts up and follow his intake build. This has been covered by him two other times giving his opinion on K&N filters. Just saying time to stop and try something else that will work better for him. I would think being a new person to to the site would want more then one opinion and now they have it on one thread.

These guys just don't want to accept that the light ply K&N type filters don't do so much filtering... that is all...
And this was the K&N on my 400EX for what it is worth... and I could show you the same from my Polaris.
UNI makes a filter for all of these applications and I will have them all.

I don't run uni oil, my local kawi shop cuts me some deals since I race with them so I run the kawi chem. That stuff is badass, mineral spirits or gas can't even get it off. I have never had a problem with mud/ water getting past, I could go out right now a take a pic of the intake tube and it be clean enough to drink from.
I clean the filter with the kawi chem cleaner, let it dry then oil it, and then put rim grease on the contact area. I think that people not greasing the filter contact area will allow some of the dust past.
