I just got the tusk top end gasket kit from Rocky mountain atv when I did mine. As far as i remember it had everything needed. Except maybe the copper washer that goes between your head and head pipe, I can't remember for sure. The gaskets are good quality material and I have not had any issues with them.

Might as well change your coolant since you have to drain it anyway.

What is the reason for the ring job?

Just preventative or what?

I've heard bad things about a lot of aftermarket gasket kits, so I always go OEM. They're more expensive, but you get what you pay for.

Ya just need top end gaskets and rings, but I'd recommend replacing the piston while you're in there and having a mechanic check out the bore on your cylinder. If your rings are gone they prolly chewed up your bore a bit, so you might need to have it re-honed and sent out for coating. If ya don't do it now you'll just eat through your rings really fast.

No they need replaced. I had it re-tuned and it was running really lean but i'm still burning a ton of oil. Even the mechanic I take my quad too said the rings are for sure shot...

Isn't part of the idea of the benefit of coated cylinders that it can often still have a good bore... and will need nothing but just a good wash?

Just asking... I mean I know it could have really messed up things in there.

And don't special tools have to be used to hone the coated cylinder to avoid damage or contamination?
And then after a certain point it just has to be stripped and recoated, or bored out and coated?

Just testing myself here...

You're mostly right I think Duster. Yes, the coating is there as a liner to prevent damage and provide better wear resistance, but if the rings are too gone it can for sure trash the bore, even w/the coating. If they're too deep he'll need to at least have it re-coated. My mechanic has told me one of the best things to do on coated cylinders, if they aren't too grooved, is to de-glaze w/a scotch bright pad. If you don't de-glaze it, with a lot of use on a coated cylinder the rings might not seat properly.
