and on the testing it could happen, i could send you money and you send me an intake, i know you had alot of racing expectations but that needs to be done because xc racing is hell on you quad!

the utilmate testing grounds
nkeen and I were discussing something else to do with the one-way valve.

This box will draw the air in through the duct on the bottom... under the tool area plastics where that big Monster logo is.

Options are to run it several ways...

Open top, outerwears on filter... anything that comes in just flies out the back when you get on the gas.

Sealed top, outerwears on filter, and outerwears lid UNDER filter above air entry duct. Then a vacuum relief valve up high on the box in case you end up stopped in water above the "duct"... engine on it more easily draws air through the relief than it pulls water up into the filter... engine off it traps air in the box atop the water.

Sealed top + outerwear @ duct opening, outerwears on filter, and relief valve up high.... but I do not believe this will allow for enough flow into the box... and this one would require the one-way drain valve... cause it would be hard for something to get in, but just as hard for it to get back out through the outerwear cover on the duct..... see what I'm saying... don't like this idea too much.

We'll see what happens on it as I go along. I'll build it and test for the worst in water with my rig I'm working up for that.... hooking it to something that sucks more CFM than the quad does to test for the worst before finding out the hard way.

Yeah, I really got no other way than to build it to clear stock bottoming.

How far back I go and how low I go will probably be finalized between that and what seems to avoid the most crud.

I wish I was working and had the dough rolling in... I'd buy another black rear plastic too, and gut the whole tool area and install the metal seat locators... like they do in MX and just have a dang field day back there...

There's lots of room to do stuff with there...

Well, I went to the shop to build this box version and a new one I have been working on.

Once I got started, I realized I had missed figuring out a couple minor details for this race duct intake, because of some changes I decided to make.

So what I ended up doing actually was building another box blank that is a "hybrid" between the two.

It draws air from the bottom like this one, but retains the maximum depth protection as well.

It will be very interesting to see how it performs. I hope to get started on testing it in action very soon. Performance wise, my only fears are....

Does it have ample intake area?
Will the intake area and box provide ample 'pressure drop'?
Will it create too much vacuum and want to suck stuff right up-over-and-in?

We shall see...
