x2, that's what I'm trying to figure out. It's not even muddy.

Is it that your cotton filter is passing mud? Put a UNI on it and problem solved

Is this where I chime in and say that's never happened to my FCI boxed version? I've gone through some muddy/watery areas too. Get an outerwares on that and it'll help some. Another idea, put a raised lip on the front of that box to make it closer to the seat or a rubber strip like they use in a car door. That might deflect the mud/water from spilling over into the front area so easy.

I didn't mean for this to happen. I actually went out on a little easy ride with a friend today... just to hang out and really to test the new oil idea I had in hopes of stopping the cotton media from passing dust.

It was supposed to be a dust run was all.

I had surgery monday... and my riding buddy was on a kawasaki bayou 250.
That's how hard... hardly we were riding.

The first picture is of me when I got back... that was the extent of the severity of what was encountered on the trail. One little clay mud spot we had to spin through. Not deep, not serious... just real slick.

I am just sick of all the d@mn tall tales about these shields you all call boxes, and these bandages you call air filters.

It's an f'N joke guys.
Swamping a REAL box with no lid is literally as f'N easy as getting mud on the back of your leg.

Yet you all want to swear your little shields are impenetrable.

My box is literally water/mud proof all the way up to the subframe.
Has front, bottom, sides, back... sealed... and comes up flush with the subframe.

All that came right in between the front wall and the seat like nothing.

I was just lucky we stopped to laugh about the little spot and I happened to look.
And I of course pulled the plug to drain the box.
I was VERY fortunate I had the extra depth on the box for the test runs.

Mine is same as yours on the front if not higher... and it's farther forward which makes the path smaller and the entry harder.

The outerwears would have helped some if I'd had it on the filter.
But it is only mud and water "resistant" not proof...

And I had it off because I was testing the actual oil I put on the filter.
I put the tacky Maxima FAB-1 oil on it in an attempt to stop the dust.
I wanted to see how it did by itself first... especially since it's tacky... ya know...

And the oil worked for the dust... but the oil is obviously nothing near waterproof as "claimed" by Maxima.

I'll be doing something more useful and starting from scratch on the whole thing.
And when I get done, you'll have to do something a lot more extreme than get a little mud on the back of your leg to swamp the d@mn intake.

dude, you are not going to have a box that will not get mud in it. the only way you can make a mud/water proof box is to have some type of lid around the top. If I were you duster, I would make a lid which would that would go around the top like two inches around and then do a little lip up that would help block water.
