Angry Air Box Problems Continue!

I had sand in my intake before, and took it apart for inspection/cleaning. The crappy intake tube was surprizingly clean, but there was sand/dirt/water between the plastic ring and air box. While trying to remove it I ended up breaking the POS, and cant remove the rest of it. So much for riding on Tuesday...with my new helmet cam. Any ideas?

This.

I can't say one good thing about the stock intake; it's garbage. ANYTHING (An FCI, FuelATV, Velocity, K&N, CFM, etc) will be better than that crap.

See now... it is said, even by a mod company, that this is supposed to come right apart with a screwdriver... But it made me nervous when I was trying to see how hard it would be to get apart... and I was SKEEERD!!! So I modded my cone while it was still in the box.

I have not seen any sign at all of any intake leaks on mine though.
But you obviously had one there.

I think a broken box is a damn good excuse to buy an aftermarket intake and fuel controller.

Any one of them are going to give you more safety and performance.
Just don't use a K&N filter.

Use an FCI, FuelATV, or FOAM filter!

Ya, you gave me the idea to take it apart. it seperated on the top pretty easy, but the bottom is glued in or something. the oem replacement piece is $3.51 at motosport.com. i'm the one that had a bunch of sand in my intake that was previously posted. i run a k&n with outerwears and didn't seal at the base. i called k&n and they sent me a new filter with grease to seal it better. they also told me to get a compression test done, to check compression. they started a claim incase there's engine damage, but want compression results on paper. I don't know how much water this holds, but at least they sent me a new filter.

Oh wait, haha, I read that TOTALLY wrong.

I thought it said "Sell your stock box for $20 plus shipping", which would have been a good idea.

GENIUS right here

Damn!!!

See I was afraid of it... but the instructions I have are to put a large flat screwdriver INSIDE the flange and pry it apart at the 12, 3 , 6 , 9 o'clock positions.

This came from a company that sells a clamp-on adapter for the stock box that eliminates the cone AND the stock flange you just broke.

So you "might" be interested in that part, and also the clamp-on filter that goes with it.

But I refuse to tell you who it is... cause #1 you broke your chit removing it... and #2 the price of their kit is $150... which would be better invested towards a full intake.

A full intake rids you of the cone, the leaky spots, and the dang pancake intake tube.

Yeah, I was able to successfully get the two pieces apart on the stock box, but it is glued in there. I used an exacto knife to cut at the glue first, then it cam apart pretty easy. But, as when working with any plastic, you can't really reef on it. I'm with everyone else, you need to get some kind of upgrade, especially with a broken box. I have a LTR setup with the stock box relocated, as I do a bunch of wet work with my bike. I can vouch for a K&N setup with a drycharger wrap. I've had an inch of water in my box (protec lid lets some water in), and nothing in the intake.

No dust or anything passing either?

I would imagine double prefiltered air probably makes a big difference.

That's the way I'm going with my setup, and being able to safely use a K&N or K&N style filter really opens up my options with what I can do.

I just ordered the replacement piece, $11 total w/ shipping. It'll be here on friday. O, and I just got my Quad Tech MX seat delivered this morning. The good thing is that I'll have more time to replace my front wheel bearings, install seat cover/foam, fix airbox, and fix the steering stem that I bent after I rolled over in a ditch going about 40mph. Good thing I still have a Z400 to ride tomorrow.
