I have a LTR setup with the stock box relocated, as I do a bunch of wet work with my bike. I can vouch for a K&N setup with a drycharger wrap. I've had an inch of water in my box (protec lid lets some water in), and nothing in the intake.
No dust or anything passing either?
I would imagine double prefiltered air probably makes a big difference.
That's the way I'm going with my setup, and being able to safely use a K&N or K&N style filter really opens up my options with what I can do.
No, I don't see any dust making it to the intake, and I check it regularly. Also, I plumbed my crankcase breather into my airbox, so my intake also stays pretty free of oil-saturated air. I rode in the high desert of Nevada last year, which was the dustiest environment I have ever ridden, and the outerwear was pretty dusty, and the outside of the K&N was covered as well, but the inside was clean as a whistle. I have a ModQuad intake setup on my stock airbox. I prefer the gator clamp over grease seal personally. My setup works well for my general disregard for good riding conditions. As long as the water isn't higher than my airbox, and I can stay warm enough to pop the clutch, I'm riding.
Another bonus of K&N, shared maintenance products with the cold air procharger on my Denali. The less fluids/cleaners the better.

Sounds good... I'll have to try the outerwear thing...
I have had no luck with me newest K&N inside a closed snorkeled intake on another quad. Dust gets in and passes right through the filter media. Upon light inspection I found the K&N media has developed some holes plenty big enough to pass dust... and the filter has never even been dirty enough to be cleaned the first time yet.

You know, the performance of a K&N filter really depends on how you treat/clean it. I clean my filter and recharge it after practically every ride. I figure 10 minutes of maintenance is small price for best flow/cleanliness. And the big thing for me is to not use high water pressure when rinsing it out. This can mat the fiber media down, and create thin spots. Also, I let mine dry on my boot dryer (no fan) to make sure the media is dry, which really helps is making sure the oil penetrates and soaks in. A fresh oil and cleaning for the filter, drycharger, and protec lid has been a great combo for protection and flow.

It is a flange that goes in your stock box so you can use a clamp-on filter I think.
Trinity sells something similar.
If you are buying it because you have issues with the stock filter leaking around where it mates to the box... fine if you can figure that one out....
Otherwise I would get something else if you want a performance gain for the money.
