Do yourself a huge favor, and stay the fuck away from the aluminum sprockets.

There are few parts on the entire machine that are subjected to the amount of stress and wear that the sprockets are, to make them out of ALUMINUM to save fractions of a pound on the overall weight is retarded. Whoever's idea it was to design aluminum sprockets for high HP sport quads should be fired.

I totally agree.... I'm just glad someone else could put it as colorful as I feel about it as well. I figured chances were, if I did... I'd be all by myself.. lol...

Yea, I've only had my quad for 2 weeks and was washign it up today decided to check out the sprockets and it is 13/39. The rear is a 39tooth renthal ALUMINUM sprocket...I'm on rocky mountain looking for new combos sprockets right now, aluminum sucks. Personally I don't want a sprocket to be the weak point in my quad that breaks and costs me a lot of time and money for a few ounces of weight. Gonna go with 15/39 I think.

I'm running 15/38 for XC and love it. Lose just a bit of bottom for slow uphills...but man she pulls everywhere else.

I do mostly MX and trails so I'm thinking 15/39 since I was riding it with 13/39 lol...wondering why gears were so short. I figure this way I'll be a little taller than stock but not too much...either way a lot better than where I am now. I just wanna get rid of the aluminum rear, but I can't do much with that 13 front anyhow.

Just read a review on casesavers...guy said it didn't work with a 15T front sprocket. Anyone know if this is true, also wondering about the stock saver, don't think that would be a problem since a lot of people go to 15's. Is a saver worth it? Do they really protect you, doesn't look like they would.

Haha wow, I couldn't even imagine running 13/39. The first 3 gears are so short as it is, I'd be going from first to third to save myself some frustration. You'll see a HUGE improvement by going up two in the front.

And case savers are absolutely worth it; they save your case from catastrophic damage if your chain snaps. And a broken case casting is a big deal to fix. Duster is running a poly case saver (Moose, I think?) that fits over a 15 tooth sprocket. Hit him up, he'll point you in the right direction (I think he has one? Lol someone does)

I'm running Pro Armor's billet aluminum 'sprocket guard' (Which they have since discontinued), which is similar to a case saver. I had to do some grinding on it to get it to fit over a 15 tooth though. The poly ones rub a bit at the beginning (Apparently), but the nice thing about them being a synthetic polymer is that it will wear around the chain without wearing the chain out.

Yea I was getting confused because my friend has a LTR450 and at the same track hes running 2nd n 3rd and i'm 3rd and 4th, could almost stay 4th all the way around and I knew they shouldn't be that far off...Never really used 1st cuz it was useless. Have the gears on the way and will have to look into the case saver soon. Hopefully nothign happens this weekend, I'll have time after that to get one ordered. I'm excited for normal gearing lol.

I'm now running 15/38... and like it pretty dang good...

With my mods I pull it fine, and I really like the extended length of the gears and the reduction of shifting.

It does make an already fast 1st gear minimum speed even faster though.
More clutch slipping going on to keep it moving and in between the trees.
And engine braking is also reduced.

I have been on 15/38 long enough now that I want to go back to 14/38 to really notice the difference.

Myself, I am thinking of trying to settle with 15/39 gearing in the end.
I already have the 39t rear here to throw on any time I want.

On the case saver, the only way to go is the Moose Poly Case saver!!!

i was running the 14/36 combo, i have the big three and i just went to 15/36. gonna run it this weekend and see how i like it. im running gbc afterburner tires 20" rear, 21" front, but they only measure up 19" rear & 20" front. im figuring it will be okay since alot of guys with 18's like the 15/36 combo, even read some guys with 21" paddles with this gearing. my friend raptor has gbc dirtdevils and his are 1" shorter all around then they are labeled as well, so thinking its a gbc thing. if i dont like it, ill throw the cams see if that changes things and if i still dont like it, ill go back to 15/38 or the 14/36 combos. anyone running a 15/36 with true 20" tires???? also i run a aluminum rear sprocket, i read how alot of you in this post dont like them, but the 7075 t-6 is as strong and even stronger then some steels, its the older 6000 series aluminum thats got the bad rap, poor strength, chain eating teeth. ive read guys having the old 6000 series aluminum spockets getting only a few months of life and guys with the 7075 t-6 3yrs of use and still going strong.
