I've never had a single issue w/K&N style filters passing ANYTHING. I don't know how adequately you guys are oiling your filters, but it must not be good enough. I do a coat inside and out, let it dry, then go back and do another. If you're getting actual particles up in your intake there are other issues...most likely a leak around the tube somewhere. When you say you're running a K&N, did you get the adapter plate or are you just using a stock replacement? If it's just a replacement, w/o the adapter ring, you'll never get a good seal. To me, the price of getting the adapter kit is well worth it.

Had the same prob with the STOCK foam filter which was properly oiled and sealed. Intake was red with dirt and gritty with fine sand particles. Switched to the FCI with that K&N style filter and haven't seen anything get passed it yet.

It's not about doing anything wrong. For example, when I had my 400EX modded, they went K&N. That filter has a metal flange that slides in the rubber boot, and a hose clamp seals it off on the 400EX. Complete seal. Good design.
The problem is the K&N filter media itself... and also maybe the lack of plys?
What happens is that the K&N filter media itself develops large holes.
An it has no depth to compensate for that to get by with it like UNI gets by with it.
I'll see if I can capture it in an image later.

K&N didn't make as big of a name for themselves as they did by producing crap) Check your intake connections, something might have come loose. Or oil the fucker, sometimes they don't come adequately oiled from wherever you buy them.
sorry sir but your very wrong. I can send you link if you like on how our filters are tested. they will filtrate as good if not better than a foam filter and still have the flow of a K&N. Our intake is a 8ply intake K&N are 4 ply.You will not see sand on the inside of your tube with our filter. i will take white glove challenge. AZkfx450rider, ride it for weekend and check your intake for us. i will pm u a hook up for yeah if you do it.

OK, it took a great amount of trial and error on my part to capture this with the camera feature of my camcorder...
I hope you guys can see this and appreciate what I am saying about the K&N media.
Holes develop that can pass large particles... you can see them here... they are the very bright spots.
