Lower Engine noise
Got my case split last night and checked the crank bearings and verified what I suspected that I had a crank bearing issue.
Last summer mine started making a bearing type noise/growl at the dunes so I parked it. A lot of stuff going on so I never dug into it deep till now as we have a dune trip to Winchester bay in 3 weeks.
I found the right side bearing was bad, left side felt good but that right side one was obvious. I was really hoping to put an upgraded crank in it with a good rod when I re-assemble it but can't find anyone that carries one reasonably priced. Hot rods has none although several dealers advertise them.
Any body know who may have one?
If I do upgrade the rod/crank I'll go ahead and add a big bore kit.
In the end, I'm glad I parked my quad and didn't attempt to ride it anymore as there was no real damage, just a noise. Also, just to let you know it wasn't low use quad, I had several hundred very hard hours on this quad and a bunch of 1/4-1/2 mile full throttle speed runs to get top MPH which I know was hard on it. I've been very happy with my KFX

torque bit socket
Ok, what size torque bit to take the retaining bolts out holding the crank bearings in? A 27 kinda fits but feels sloppy and a 30 is to big.

oil tube may havebeen leaking
When I pulled the oil screans I found a piece of aluminum and wondered what it was? Well I found where it went and contribute the r/s bearing's failure on htat.
The oil tube that crosses brtween the two cases, above the trans and carries oil to the r/s oil tubes that bolt on the case, had a little piece broken off on the edge and the O ring was slightly damaged. In my opinion it was like that from initial assembly and has been like that since day one. Over time the reduced oil to that area may have contributed to the bearing going bad.
I got the bearing out today and am waiting for the new bearing to show. Need to order a new tube and the O rings before I can re-assemble so a slight set back in putting it back together.
Oh ya, the torx bit was a #30, my brand new torx bit from Lowes Cobalt tools was deffective and not made correctly. I went and exchanged it today and fits perfectly.

I sent mine to Falicon and they put a knife rod in and swapped my needle bearings for more durable rollerbearings. I had it shaved, trued and welded as well, but should be bulletproof

Quads all done and back together running.
right side crank bearing was bad.
My Fuel ATV Intake set-up, ESR ceramic coated exhaust, and PCIII was grabbed by my son for his KFX while mine was down so had to buy new stuff.
Went with a PC5, DASA 13" classic, and a Fuel Customs intake, no air box. Exhaust showed up today to finish. I ran the stock exhaust all this week so I could get some time on it while I waited for my pipe.
Run'n sweet, lots of power and ready for the dunes next week.

Nice setup! How is the PC5 treating you? I almost went with the ERS Ceramic coated exhaust but got the Dasa. It was such a close call it really was. Thats nice you get to have experience with both the pipes. Let us know what you think after your dune trip what you think of the Dasa vs. ESR
