Finally had my stock intake off today.
I didn't see where it had room to move out any on the shock side.
Bottom line is, Kawi just "F'd" this aspect up.
They had all the room in the world, but shoved the front of the box into the shock.
STUPID.
The aftermarket intakes flow better because they moved the filter back from the shock.
Anyways, I didn't see much I could do for the pancake section... and the cone screen did not appear to be removable. I was afraid to try any harder to see if anything popped apart.
Sooo... I knocked the guts out of it.
I took what Yokley's mechanic did to the extreme.
There is no screen like he did...
And I also cut the 4 rings out.
So all that's left is the 4 pieces to the filter nut.
The rest of the cone is gone.
I'm throwing a No-Toil filter on it tomorrow and we will see what happens.
My bet is you could take the whole air box off and use it for a cooler and it still wouldn't get much more air through the pancake.

Well I was wrong, and Johnnyboy is right...

Yes, it's a nice gain with what I did. I just can't tell exactly how much because it's been a few months since I rode it aggressive and on dirt.
Also, when I got it all back on and lined up, I did also see a little room there to play with on the plastic pancake. I just can't remember if it is a place where it would actually enlarge the smallest thru-point of the pancake.
So the gutting of the cone may or may not be most of it... dunno.
Getting an aftermarket intake is going to make a nice difference though.
Any one of them.
I just hope you also have a fuel controller to go with it.
Else you'll be lean.

I looked it is still there but all the pics have vanished so its worthless. Still no FCI I think its been put on a boat not a plane, still the weather is awfull here at the moment so not to bothered. Also went to order a PC5 till they told me how much the exhaust sensor is talk about a rip off, still may buy one just to review the thing but it sure is a lot of money

OK... Thanks.
I was also thinking last night that a resprung rear would probably make a lot more room also.
These KFX springs are really large diameter.

As it turns out, you can pop the inlet off and pull the whole cone out.
I just wasn't brave enough to try it not knowing...
You'd need a flange and a clamp on filter then though.
Had I known though, it would have made my work easier and cleaner. Would have been a lot better than the way I had to gut it while it was in the box.
Anyways,
Here is a picture of what I did for future readers....
